opensources.dev is an index-and-analysis layer for open-source projects. This page explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible and we do not sell your data.
What we collect
- Account details. If you create an account, we store your email address and name, and a securely hashed password (we never store your password in plain text). If you sign in with Google, we store your email, name, and profile image from Google.
- Activity you create. Libraries you save, collections you build, and projects you submit.
- Viewing history (signed-in only). When you’re signed in, we record which library pages you open, to power your account view and to infer your areas of interest. This is not collected for signed-out visitors.
- Acquisition source. When you register, we record how you first arrived (e.g. “organic”, or the referring site) so we understand where our audience comes from. This is derived from your browser’s referrer; we do not store browsing history from other sites.
- Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email and subscription status (double opt-in).
How we use it
- To provide the account features you use (saved items, collections, submissions).
- To send transactional email (verification and password reset) and, if you opt in, the weekly newsletter.
- To understand aggregate usage and improve the product.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell or rent your personal data.
- We don’t show third-party advertising trackers.
- We don’t put personal data in URLs or share it with destinations you didn’t choose.
Sharing
We use a small number of service providers to operate the site: our hosting provider, our email provider for transactional and newsletter email, and the public registry/security APIs we query to compute health scores (which do not receive your personal data). Each processes data only to provide their service.
Your choices
- Access & deletion. You can delete your account and associated data — saved items, collections, view history, and submissions are removed with it. Contact us to request deletion, or use the account controls where available.
- Newsletter. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
- Cookies. We use a single sign-in cookie to keep you logged in and a local preference for light/dark theme. We don’t use advertising cookies.
Data retention
We keep account data while your account is active. View history and internal search logs are retained only as long as useful for the features above and are periodically pruned. Verification and reset tokens are single-use and expire quickly.
